What to Look for When Receiving a Suspicious Letter

  • No return address
  • Restrictive markings
  • Misspelled words
  • Unknown powder or suspicious substance
  • Possibly mailed from a foreign country
  • Excessive postage
  • If you receive a suspicious letter:
    • Stop! Do NOT handle it
    • Isolate it immediately
    • Do not open, smell or taste it
    • Immediately call UCPD opens a new window by calling 9-1-1.

What to Look for When Receiving a Suspicious Package

  • Excessive tape
  • Oily stains and/or discoloration on wrapping
  • Strange odor
  • Addressed incorrectly
  • Rigid or bulky
  • Lopsided or uneven
  • Protruding wires
  • If you receive a suspicious package:
    • Stop! Do NOT handle it
    • Isolate it immediately
    • Do not open, smell or taste it
    • Immediately call UCPD opens a new window by dialing 9-1-1.
